CUPID PART 7: ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE (excerpt- part 5 of 5)

(continued from part 4)

OWEN

Fuck you, Charlie.

CHARLIE

You're still mad at me?

OWEN

FUCK YOU, CHARLIE!

CHARLIE

I already apologized and told you I'd buy you some new shoes, man.  That's all I can do.  (smiling) You need a foot massage or something?

OWEN

That's a great idea, Charlie.  Yes.  I'd like you to give me a foot massage.  Let's get your hands covered in foot sweat and stale piss.  And then make food.  You're a piece of shit.  Shut the fuck up.

CHARLIE

C'mon, man!  I was shit-housed!  It happens!

OWEN

Just do your fuckin' job, dumbass.

CHARLIE

(under his breathe)

You are.

They continue cooking/prepping.

OWEN

Order up!

Laura  walks up to the window and grabs the food.  She looks at Owen and smiles.  Owen is shocked.  Laura walks off with the food.

OWEN

Did you see that?

CHARLIE

I know, right?  I'd do horrible things to that woman...

OWEN

That girl...

CHARLIE

(to himself)

...and she'd love me for it.

OWEN

I know that girl!  She was the one at the bar the other night!  We had sex on the beach...

CHARLIE

You what?!

OWEN

That's her drink.  Sex on the Beach.  I got her on and then...

CHARLIE

Wound up jerking off?

OWEN

(shaking his head)

I hate you.

CHARLIE

The gun range and now this?  You fire off more rounds than a...um...

Owen stops what he's doing and turns around aggressively.

OWEN

FUCK YOU, CHARLIE!

CHARLIE

Okay!  Fine!

They continue cooking/prepping.

OWEN

When did she start working here?

CHARLIE

First day.  So we get to break her in, (nudging Owen) huh?  Huh?

OWEN

Dibs.

CHARLIE

That's a negative, Ghost Rider.  Best man wins.

OWEN

Suppose we'll find out...

CHARLIE

(smiling to himself)

Suppose we will...

Owen looks a little upset.

CHARLIE

(still smiling)

Order up!

INT. COFFEE SHOP- DAY (COOL BEANS)

Margo hands the last customer their coffee and sighs.

MARGO

Jenn...Let's get the fuck out of here.  I need a drink.

JENNIFER

Well, I guess you deserve it...Okay.  I've got most of the cleanup done already, so we can just...

MARGO

Let's just hurry up.  My inner alcoholic is screaming.

JENNIFER

I'sa gonna hurry, Miss Daisy.

MARGO

Now's probably not the best time for that.

JENNIFER

(meekly)

Just trying to help.  I'll hurry up.

INT. KITCHEN OF RESTAURANT- NIGHT

Owen and Charlie are cleaning up the kitchen.  Everything looks spotless.

CHARLIE

Bout finished.  Ready to give it a try?

OWEN

Are we talking about what I think we're talking about?

CHARLIE

Yep.  Let's go, wing-man.

Charlie walks out of the kitchen.

OWEN

What?  What?!

Owen runs after him.

INT. RESTAURANT- NIGHT

Charlie walks with purpose towards Laura, who's sweeping up.  Lust is watching the scene off of the mirror that's behind the bar, sipping a drink sensually.  Charlie approaches Laura.

CHARLIE

Hey.

LAURA

Hey.

CHARLIE

How's your first day goin'?

Owen rushes into the main room.

OWEN

(trailing off)

I called dibs...!

BEAT

LAURA

(smiling)

Is that right?

OWEN

Um...well...

CHARLIE

That's right.  He called dibs.  Pretty childish, right?  I, on the other hand, was just being polite.

LAURA

And why should I believe you?

CHARLIE

Because I'm being polite.  How was your first day?

Laura and Charlie share a moment.  Owen's shoulders drop and he walks back into the kitchen.  Lust smiles.

EXT. COFFEE SHOP- NIGHT

Margo dials a number on her cell phone as she and Jennifer walk to their cars.  Cupid is also walking near them in the same direction.

JENNIFER

You should call Owen.

MARGO

Eh.  I don't know if I can deal with another man right now.

JENNIFER

He's a good guy.  We should meet him somewhere.

MARGO

Fine!  Fine.  Jeez...

JENNIFER

So, see you there?

MARGO

Sounds good.

Margo puts the phone to her ear.

EXT. OUTSIDE RESTAURANT

Owen looks through the window of the restaurant to see Charlie and Laura flirting heavily.  Owen's phone rings.  He sighs and looks at it to see Margo calling him.

CUT TO Margo

MARGO

Owen?

CUT TO Owen, who has answered his phone.

OWEN

I hate Charlie.

CUT TO Margo

MARGO

Yeah, listen.  Jenn and I just got off and we were thinking of going to (insert bar name).

CUT TO Owen

OWEN

Another bar?  It's a Tuesday!  And you have work tomorrow!  At 6!

Margo gets into her car.

INT. MARGO'S CAR- NIGHT

MARGO

Just meet us there, Owen.

INT. OWEN'S CAR- NIGHT

OWEN

Okay...Just...go easy 'til I get there...

INT. MARGO'S CAR- NIGHT

MARGO

And it's Monday.

Margo hangs up the phone.

INT. BAR 3- NIGHT (JAKE'S)

Margo and Jennifer, still in work clothes, are leaning against the bar, which is large, with pool tables, a shuffleboard, darts, etc..  The bar itself has a large array of different beers on tap.

Margo and Jennifer throw back shots.  Jennifer bites into a lime.  Both make faces as they try to shake off the taste.
